3 ● Do you see how beautifully designed the human body is?

AQUARIUM by Dan Chiasson

I am full of secrets, but none of them is yours.
You can't confide in the outside world.
The surface of the glass is your only conceivable body.

These traces of movement, sudden shadows, they're not fish.
There are varieties of life unknown to you.
Their whole identity is: you can't find out.

You can't find out, however hard you try, no matter
what you say, however "advanced" you are:
they swim away, these things that are not fish.

Look at those bodies on the street. Do you see
how beautifully designed the human body is?
How can you compare your column for containing water?

My mind contains everything except for fish.
The rumor of depth is your new atmosphere.
You can't confide in me. I'm not an aquarium.
